A Stormmaster pavement sign is built to stand outdoors year-round, but everything in moderation 🙂. Rain, gusts, frost and sun are part of everyday life for a pavement sign, so it requires a bit of ongoing maintenance to perform optimally.
Retighten the sign 3-5 times a year
When a sign stands on the pavement day after day, it is exposed to vibration, gusts of wind and movement. Over time this can cause fittings and joints to work slightly loose.
We therefore recommend retightening the Stormmaster sign 3-5 times a year, depending on location and weather conditions.
On the underside of the base there are two tightening mechanisms that can be tightened as needed. Often you can do this by hand, but if they are a bit stiff, pliers can give a better grip and make the job easier.
Water or sand in the base?
The Stormmaster sign base should be filled to provide extra stability.
Filling with water
Water is quick and easy to fill. If the sign is outdoors during the winter period, however, we recommend adding a little antifreeze or alcohol so the water does not freeze and risk damaging the container.
Filling with sand
Many instead choose to fill the base with fine, dry sand. Sand provides good weight and stability, requires no maintenance and is not affected by frost.
For exposed locations with strong winds, sand is often the preferred solution.
Replace PET front panels
After many years of use the front panels can become scratched or worn. Fortunately you don’t need to replace the entire sign. For Stormmaster / wind-sign, PET front panels are available as spare parts, so you can easily give the sign a fresh, presentable appearance again. This makes Stormmaster a long-term investment where individual parts can be replaced as needed.
A sign built for Nordic weather
Stormmaster is developed for outdoor use and is among the most popular pavement signs for shops, cafés, clinics and restaurants. We carry both Stormmaster 50 x 70 cm and Stormmaster 70 x 100 cm – both with an aluminium base and waterbase system.
With a little ongoing maintenance, the correct ballast in the base and the option to replace the front panels, the sign can remain attractive and functional for many years.
